My 3 Biggest Business Lessons of 2022

2022 marks the end of year 3 as a business mentor (and year 5 as a coach overall).  Here are the top 3 business lessons that have made the biggest difference in how I show up for quick wins and long-term results.

1.Energy Management: Prioritize your ENERGY so you can show up from a place of feeling good.

The first couple of years of business I spent implementing my business strategy and developing the skill set and structures to improve it over time.  Because I am balancing business + motherhood, I doubled down on my energy management this year so that I could supercharge my strategy from a place of feeling good – even when I had limited time capacity.

This meant paying attention to the marketing/sales/client work actions that felt fulfilling so I could do more of them, and what felt draining so I could delegate or delete them.  I also started going to the gym regularly and doing healthy meal planning so I could prioritize my health and wellness, and having more fun in my personal life.

When I emphasized my energy FIRST, I found that doing all of the strategic actions felt easier and more effective.

2. Money Management: Paying attention to your money mindset and developing healthy money habits pays off.

There was a pivotal moment this year where I wondered, “What would I even do with more money in my business?”

This inspired me to dream bigger and get cozy with my numbers so that I felt more grounded in WHY I wanted to make more money, how my business can support my life, and the kind of impact I want to make (and not according to someone else’s version of success).

Some of this was money mindset: paying attention to my beliefs around wealth and money, creating awareness around my spending habits, releasing shame and guilt from past money “mistakes”, and knowing when something was more math than mindset.

Some of this was money habits: getting better at sales activities, plugging my operational money leaks, looking at my business and personal finances on a regular basis, and implementing Profit First.

Financial Health and Literacy is possible with awareness, money habits, and support.  Shout to Anna Rapp and Tara Newman for your sales and money mindset support.

3. Expectation Management: Focus on what you can control, and surrender the rest.

The truth is: when it comes to reaching your big, audacious goals, there are some things that are within your control, and some things that you can surrender.

The best way that I have managed my expectations around what I’m capable of achieving while releasing unnecessary pressure is to show up for the things within my power (ie. creating potent marketing, personal outreach, doing my coaching job) and to give over power to God for all of the rest (ie. releasing how people respond to my content, when people sign as clients, and the results that get during our work together).

This will continue to be a work in progress, but the more that I focus on stepping into my own roles and responsibilities as content creator and coach, the more I can enjoy the process on the way to the big goals.

Which of these 3 lessons resonates most with you?  I’d love to hear what your biggest business lesson was this year!

With joy,
