What do you love to do for fun?

What-do-you-love-to-do-for-fun
Last week on the blog, I shared some tips about how to create routine into your creative life by blending both structure and flexibility for a schedule that works for you.  Today, I wanted to share with you the missing piece to the puzzle — FUN!
When you’re so busy grinding, hustling, and working hard, it’s equally important to create some margin in your life to rest, rejuvenate, and have some FUN!  Setting aside time to do things you love for leisure may not feel productive, but it’s essential for our souls and overall well-being.  Think about it:  Olympic athletes train hard for a specific amount of time, then rest and recover.  Kids learn so much through playing and engaging in activities they enjoy…and then they take a nap.  So if you don’t want to put yourself on the fast-track to burn out, schedule in some time to do something FUN!

So, the question is:
What do you love to do for fun?
What’s something that if you do it (no matter how long or how little) refuels your energy and maintains your sanity?
If you’re not sure, or it’s been a while since you’ve done something FUN, here’s a brainstorming list of ideas to get you started:
  1. read a book
  2. take a walk around the neighborhood
  3. host a game night
  4. invite someone to coffee
  5. make something crafty
  6. go to a new place and take photos of inspiring things
  7. check out with they have on Groupon and try something
  8. go to a kickboxing class
  9. go to a winery
  10. buy an adult coloring book and color
  11. try a new recipe
  12. go hiking
  13. call an old friend
  14. take a nap
  15. eat brunch
  16. play with your kiddos
  17. play with someone else’s kiddos
  18. plant something in a garden
  19. go see a movie
  20. go to the theater
  21. go swimming
  22. go bowling
  23. get a manicure
  24. write in a journal
  25. go on a run

So okay, you get the point.  These were a mixture of quiet, social, creative, athletic, adventurous activities depending on what you’re in the mood for.  The point is, when you prioritize FUN in your life (or maybe this is self-care, health, or rest), it will help you to cultivate JOY in various areas of your life.  Give yourself the space and permission to have fun and then go do it!  Your brain and your body will thank you.

Let me know in the comments: what's your favorite thing to do for fun?
